Dr. Carolina Restini is an associate professor at Michigan State University College of Osteopathic Medicine (MSUCOM), where she serves as the Pharmacology thread director and the director of the Foundry for Innovative Research and Education (FIRE) program. Dr. Restini's expertise lies in integrating pharmacology education with experiential learning, research and community engagement. She is passionate about bridging classroom instruction with real-world applications, ensuring that students connect their medical knowledge with patient-centered care.
She earned her PharmD and Ph.D. in Pharmacology from the School of Medicine University of São Paulo. Her academic career spans over 15 years, during which she has taught pharmacology, physiology and clinical epidemiology in various health-related programs. She has also mentored students in the accredited Master's Program in Health and Education, preparing them to work in the Brazilian Public Health Care system.
Since joining MSUCOM in 2017, Dr. Restini has, in addition to teaching osteopathic medical students and PA students, developed outreach projects to provide community-based services and conduct research. Her research projects and investigations, particularly those related to cardiovascular and renal pharmacology, are not limited to the theoretical aspects of therapeutics but also consider the humanistic aspects. This approach bridges the gap between pharmacology teaching and patient care, demonstrating her commitment to the practical application of her research field. Interacting with and valuing students' feedback are tools she applies to better convey pharmacology content. In this sense, she has invested in educational development and has been awarded grants for projects designed to answer questions on optimizing pharmacology education and community services. Her journey reflects a commitment to leadership, innovation and scholarship in the field of pharmacology education.
