Micah Lissy, MD, MS, PT, ATC, CSCS, board-certified, fellowship trained orthopedic surgeon joins MSU Health Care in August 2022. He has a master's degree in physical therapy from Ithaca College and is certified as an athletic trainer and strength coach. He spent time working in all three of these professions with Professional Olympic and Recreational athletes before pursuing his medical degree. He draws on all of these experiences when providing patient care and lecturing. Dr. Lissy received his medical degree from the Sackler School of Medicine, New York Program and completed an internship and a residency in orthopedics at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine-Montefiore Medical Center in the Bronx. During his orthopedic sports fellowship at Detroit Medical Center where he provided sports medicine care to members of the MLB's Detroit Tigers, the NBA's Detroit Pistons and the NHL's Red Wings professional sports teams. Currently he is team physician for the Michigan State Spartans. For the last ten years, Dr. Lissy built a premiere sports medicine program in central New York working with Division I collegiate and high school athletes.
At MSU Health Care, he specializes in arthroscopic surgeries of the ankle, knee, hip, elbow, and shoulder. Growing up, Lissy's sports and team experiences were formative. The lessons and relationships forged on the field of play inspired him to stay connected to sports throughout his life. In addition to participating as a player, Dr. Lissy has coached several teams, even touring Europe as the head coach of The Israeli National Women’s Rugby Team. Dr. Lissy draws on all his past experiences as an athlete, coach, performance specialist, athletic trainer, physical therapist, and sports surgeon to build the program, treat patients and educate the community. Additionally, Dr. Lissy serves a team physician for Michigan State University Spartan athletes.
