I obtained my medical degree at the Michigan State University College of Osteopathic Medicine and graduated in 2006. My dermatology training was completed with Greg Messenger MD after completing my pediatric training at Sparrow Hospital and MSU. I am board certified in pediatrics, a member of the Society for Pediatric Dermatology and make it a point to stay up to date with current medical literature.

Dr. Yuen Gao is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Radiology at Michigan State University, with a strong commitment to uncovering the molecular and cellular mechanisms underlying human diseases. His research focuses on investigating the role of histone covalent modification enzymes in brain development and disease.

John came to MSUCOM in August of 2002. He serves as receptionist for the Business Office and member of the finance team. John handles the mailroom, cash receipts, keys, and a myriad of small (but important) functions throughout the College. He also serves as a unit lead for the Emergency Action Team. In this role as Office Manager, he brings his own unique sense of style and passion to the job. “Every day brings something new,” he has said. “I never know what’s going to happen.”

A Michigan native, Dr. Gerstner attended Lawrence University in Appleton, WI for his undergraduate education. He completed medical school at MSUCOM in 2013 and stayed in mid-Michigan for residency in the Sparrow Hospital/MSU Emergency Medicine Residency Program. He is board certified in Emergency Medicine and remains active in graduate medical education as a core faculty member of his training program.
