Update: The graduating Class of 2022 achieved a 99% match rate.
For the first time since 2019, SpartanDO students celebrated their residency program matches in person. On Friday, March 18, students gathered at the MSU Kellogg Center to rip open envelopes and learn where they are headed for their residency training.
The graduating students of the MSU College of Osteopathic Medicine achieved an impressive 98% match rate [Correction: The graduating Class of 2022 achieved a 99% match rate]. Our Military students achieved a 100% match rate (five placements within the military, and one placement through the NRMP).
Congratulations to the Class of 2022 on the culmination of your hard work, dedication and passion for health, especially as competition for residency spots increases. The entire SpartanDO community is #DOproud of these future doctors—for matching into a residency program or for continuing their learning and contributions to the community in other ways after graduation.
The 290 matched students will be heading into 22 specialties across 28 states, with 76% staying in Michigan. Compared to last year, more students will be serving populations outside of Michigan by training in other states across the country.
Fifty-one percent (51%) of graduates will train in a Statewide Campus System residency program, strengthening our pipeline of caring for Michigan communities.
Forty-three percent (43%) of our students are headed into primary care (family medicine, internal medicine, pediatrics and pediatrics-medical genetics). Other specialties include, but are not limited to, anesthesiology, dermatology, emergency medicine, general surgery, neurology, OB/GYN, psychiatry and radiology.
