Emergency Medicine Club hosts Survival Flight Landing event

Back

The Michigan State University College of Osteopathic Medicine Emergency Medicine Club hosted its first Survival Flight Landing event Monday, Oct. 13, giving D.O. and PA students an up-close look at the fast-paced world of emergency response and critical care transport.

Students gathered at the Farm Bureau Pavilion at MSU to meet the Survival Flight team from University of Michigan Health, including a pilot, flight medic and flight nurse. The crew showcased their specialized equipment and answered questions about their roles, training and experiences working in high-pressure emergency situations.

In addition to the Survival Flight team, members of the East Lansing Fire Department attended the event, displaying their emergency response vehicles and equipment. Medical students had the opportunity to explore and learn about firefighting and rescue operations, as well as connect with professionals from another essential branch of emergency services.

The Survival Flight Landing event provided MSUCOM students valuable insight into emergency medicine outside the classroom — highlighting the teamwork, communication and critical thinking required in real-world emergency care.
