MIchigan OMSP
The Michigan Osteopathic Medical Scholars Program (MI-OMSP) is a mentorship initiative by the MSU College of Osteopathic Medicine for students currently enrolled in a Michigan post-secondary/undergraduate institution (2-year or 4-year). Students admitted to this program will have opportunities to deepen their interest in and exposure to osteopathic medicine. Through a purposeful curriculum, participants will interact with the MSUCOM program, gain hands-on experience with basic clinical skills and engage in various enrichment activities.
As students embark on their journeys toward MSUCOM, MI-OMSP will support them academically by offering resources in study habits, MCAT preparation and additional preparatory guidance to support student success.
How to Qualify:
- Must be currently enrolled in a Michigan post-secondary institution.
- If you are currently enrolled at MSU, please see Spartan OMSP.
- Must have a minimum of 26+credits from institutions; AP, IB and early middle college credits do not count toward this program.
- When admitted into the program, must have two years remaining of undergraduate work to complete.
- Come from a background that is not traditionally represented in medicine.
- Have a GPA of 3.5 or higher.
How to Apply:
- The application is now open until May 13, 2025.
- Submit a transcript*.
- *MI-OMSP is willing to accept an unofficial transcript for application purposes, but prior to acceptance will need to submit an official transcript.
- Submit a letter of recommendation from a person who can speak about personal and academic ability.
- Students attending a 2-year institution must also provide information on where they plan to complete their 4-year degree.
After Being Admitted:
- Attend a one-day summer workshop at MSUCOM.
- Pair with a MSUCOM medical student mentor.
- Receive opportunity for MCAT Prep.
- Participants who achieve an MCAT score of 500 or higher and maintain a minimum cumulative and science GPA of 3.5 will qualify for an automatic interview with MSUCOM.
- Monthly check-ins and workshops designed to guide students through the application process for MSUCOM and equip them with the skills to thrive as a medical student; provided opportunities to grow students' knowledge about osteopathic medicine.
- Personalized advising and recommendations prior to entering MSUCOM to ensure students have the best chances of being admitted into the college.
