Upper Peninsula Future Health Leaders Camp
A partnership with the Michigan State University College of Osteopathic Medicine and the Northern Michigan University Center for Rural Health provides opportunities for students who are entering ninth and 10th grade in fall 2026 from across the Upper Peninsula to explore health care careers and build skills through hands-on experience and real-world exposure as part of the Upper Peninsula Future Health Leaders Camp (U.P. FHLC).
Program Summary
The U.P. FHLC is designed to promote the culture of overall health by:
- Educating youth about best practices for living a healthy life
- Providing an opportunity to explore a variety of health care career options
- Creating and developing new friendships in a fun-filled week of education and activities

Encouraging youth to start thinking about their future and how they can truly make an impact
Educational topics will include:
- The basics of health and wellbeing, including the importance of good nutrition and physical activity
- Cardiology
- Surgical technology
- Radiography
- EMS
- Clinical lab sciences and more
Each morning will begin with a presentation from a health care professional, offering firsthand insight into their field and each evening will end with social and recreational activities. Activities and sessions will focus on hands-on experience, simulations and skills development. Students will have opportunities to shadow at a local hospital and see first-hand how health professionals spend their days. Each participant will also earn CPR and First Aid certification by the end of the week. In addition, youth and parents will learn more about tips on what they can do now to better prepare for higher education.

July 19-24, 2026, at Northern Michigan University
Cost
- Day Camp: $250 (8 a.m.–5 p.m. EST; option to stay until 9 p.m. for evening activities; meals included; daily check-in/out required)
- Overnight Camp: $350 (meals included; stay in NMU residence halls)
Register
Applications will be open until May 15, 2026. Spots are limited to 50 students. Please share dietary restrictions during online registration. Scholarships are available for students with financial need, consideration must be completed by May 15, 2026.
Please note this is for students who live in the Upper Peninsula.
