Janice Schwartz, M.S., Ph.D.

Dr. Janice Schwartz (BS, MS, PhD) earned an Individual Interdisciplinary PhD in Molecular Endocrinology and Biophysics from the School of Medicine at Wayne State University and completed a postdoctoral fellowship in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology before being appointed to the Department of Physiology at the School of Medicine of WSU. Since that time, she has published over 20 peer-reviewed publications and has served as the principal investigator on grants from the National Institutes of Health: National Institute of Diabetes, Digestive, and Kidney Diseases and the National Cancer Institute as well as several intramural agencies.  

Shortly after joining the College of Osteopathic Medicine at MSU, Dr. Schwartz developed a medical student research program to connect students to investigators at nearby research facilities. As part of this program she mentored over 30 students and participated in numerous research projects.

In 2015, Dr. Schwartz was appointed as a National Faculty Member for the Clinical Department of Foundational Biomedical Sciences in Physiology at the NBOME. Dr. Schwartz is also a full-time faculty member and medical educator at MSUCOM.  She leads all of the year I and year II histopathology laboratories at DMC, serves as the course coordinator for the OST591 Medical Case Study Elective, and participates as a contributing lecturer in Endocrinology, Principles of Cell Biology and Pathophysiology, Female Reproductive System, and others. Recently, Dr. Schwartz received the Outstanding Curricular Contributions Award.
