OsteoCHAMPS-UP

OsteoCHAMPS-UP, our newest pathway program, is designed to expose high school students from the Upper Peninsula to osteopathic medicine and healthcare careers. This new program enables these students to achieve their career goals by providing:

  • Greater academic preparation and competitiveness for higher education
  • Lifelong learning and problem-solving skills
  • Development of individual responsibility, appreciation for diversity, and teamwork
  • Tools needed to set worthy goals toward attaining health care careers

Program Summary

  • 3-day non-residential program on July 26, 27, and 28 at UPHS-Marquette and Northern Michigan University
  • Program will operate 10:00am-3:00pm each day. Students are responsible for their own transportation to and from the program
  • Experiential learning
    • Participants will have the opportunity to learn from current physicians and healthcare providers at UPHS-Marquette
    • Students will participate in rotations and hands-on learning throughout the hospital to preview of a wide array of medical specialties, including Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine
  • Access to MSU Resources
    • College of Osteopathic Medicine Pathway Programs Office
    • Osteopathic Medical Scholars Program
    • College of Osteopathic Medicine Students, Faculty, Staff and Alumni

Year-Round Support

The OsteoCHAMPS-UP staff will keep in contact with all students who have participated in the summer program. We also seek to follow OsteoCHAMPS-UP alumni as they progress through college, whether its MSU or another institution of higher learning. We also aim to serve as a year-round resource to our alums, providing guidance and tools to enhance academic success and career development.

Requirements

At the time of application, the candidate must:

  • Be a high school sophomore or junior residing in Marquette or a surrounding area in the Upper Peninsula, MI
  • A competitive applicant will have a 3.0 GPA or higher.
  • Demonstrate interest in the health care field
  • Submit a letter of recommendation
  • Complete the application

Cost

This is a sponsored program, with no cost to the participants. Students are responsible for their transportation to and from the program each day.
