Initiatives
We are committed to providing a welcoming and supportive atmosphere to all prospective and current students, faculty, staff and alumni, and work to provide a broad array of opportunities for engagement and education around inclusion and diversity. Current initiatives include:
- Clinical Outreach
Serve the community and build clinical skills by participating in activities ranging from treating athletes to providing free healthcare to the underserved.
- International Opportunities
Elective experiences and clerkships in Guatemala, Mexico, Dominican Republic, Korea, Peru, Cuba and Malawi.
- Pre-college Pipeline Programs
Programs such as Future DOcs, OsteoCHAMPS, and Osteopathic Medical Scholars prepare and educate young people to be competitive for admission to osteopathic medical school or other health professions.
- Student Organizations
The College of Osteopathic Medicine is home to numerous student organizations, from the International Osteopathic Medicine Organization (IOMO) and Lesbian, Gay, Bi-Sexual, Transgender & Allies in Medicine (LGBTA), to the Christian Medical Association (CMA) and Islamic Medical Student Association (IMSA).
- Dr. William G. Anderson “Slavery to Freedom” lecture series
Now in its 24th year, this program offered every February brings multicultural leaders to campus to interact with students, faculty, administrators and members of the community.
- Guest Presentations
Special presentations from a variety of expert speakers.
- Martin Luther King, Jr. observance
Conducted close to the MLK holiday and co-sponsored by COM, CHM and CVM, this event celebrates Martin Luther King’s accomplishments and his influence on civil rights and social injustice.
- MSU Inclusion and Intercultural Initiatives Events
MSU events that provide an array of cultural experiences for the campus community and beyond are made available through this event calendar that is updated continuously.
- MSU Dialogues
MSU Dialogues is an intergroup dialogue program for students, faculty and staff at Michigan State. It is a face-to-face learning experience that brings together people from different identity groups over a sustained period of time to examine the nature and impact of societal inequalities and explore ways of working together toward greater equity and justice.

MSU Institutional Diversity: Excellence in Action (MSU IDEA) Coordinator's Group
The college works closely with IDEA, a cooperative effort with representation from all major academic units, to build an exemplary multicultural environment within which demographic and cultural diversity are present, diversity is valued, and cross-cultural understanding is promoted.
